Product Details of JVC GR-DF450US MiniDV Digital Camcorder

Description

Capturing the great moments in your life deserves the best performance. The GR-DF450 delivers. The ergonomic EZ grip design puts total control in the palm of your hand. But it?s not just the comfortable feel that makes the GR-DF450 a powerful performer. JVC's exclusive Low Light Plus incorporates two key technologies: The F1.2 Super Bright Lens obtains twice the light of an F1.8 lens assuring a bright picture with less noise even in less than desirable lighting conditions. And Three Dimensional Noise Reduction (3D NR) eliminates picture noise up to 30% in low light situations. Keep your subject in view outdoors with a 2.5 inch Clear LCD that reduces glare and reflections, and a built-in auto " Illumi-Light" for 1/10th the power consumption. There?s also a color viewfinder, Power-Linked Operation, Night Alive, and 700X Super Digital Zoom with Spline Interpolation. Record HG digital stills at up to 1024 x 768 to the SD/MMC card slot. There's also an accessory shoe and mic input with plug-in power. The GR-DF450 delivers high performance video.

GR-450US

Strengths: lightweight,compact

Weakness: lens cap error after 14 months of light usage

I bought this camcorder based on the reviews, after 14 months I got the "Lens Cap" error. JVC absolutly refused to fix it, eventhough they have a recall on other models with the same problem. I wil never buy another JVC unit in my life again. Jay, New York

GR-DF430U Junk!!!

Strengths: None

Weakness: Bad Design and Horrible Customer Service

I'm another victim of the JVC Ripoff, only used this camera for less than 8 hours total and it has the infamous "Lens Cap" error, like many, many others. They refuse to repair the unit under warranty, their customer service is beyond horrible. They don't care at all what you think and call you a liar when you tell them the unit has hardly been used before it failed. I will never, never purchase...

Very Disappointing!

Strengths: Compact size, Great sound quality, Ease of use and transferability to PC

Weakness: Recording problems, LCD/Viewfinder problems, Only 15X Zoom, Picture sometimes grainy or blurry, even in automatic mode

Well, I am very disappointed with this camcorder. I purchased it on Jan. 20, 2006 and have used it 3 times. April 22 I took it out of the carry case to record my children and I got a lens cap error even thought the lens cap was off. The LCD and Viewfinder both show nothing but blackness. It will record sound but no picture. Fortunately I had purchased an extended warranty from the merchant, but I...

Buyer Beware!!!

Strengths: lightweight

Weakness: bad support from JVC on manufacturer defect

This was a birthday gift to me last year. I used it twice - baby's birthday and Christmas. Now all I get is a lens cap error and a black screen. This is a problem known to JVC. Quote: "JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, a small quantity of units of the models listed below, may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display “LENS CAP” even...

Great compact digital video camera

Strengths: size, features, quality of hardware, ease of use, a/v inputs and transfer capabilities, low light conditions decent.

Weakness: None yet - Do yourself a favor and buy an extra battery so you'll never run out of available juice though.

This is an upgrade from our first JVC ultra-compact which lasted for EIGHT years! Needless to say we were happy with that first camera and this is a great upgrade. No learning curve either. There is a reason this is the TOP rated CR model too - you simply get a huge bang for your buck with it. I even found it online for $320 (2/2006)!!!

Non working out of the box

Strengths: None

Weakness: Not working

I bought this item as a Xmas gift. Upon opening it was not working (no image in viewfinder or on LCD). I tried three Emails to JVC's Online Customer Service and one Email to their Webmaster to see if they could solve the problem with absolutely no response (I was assurred a response in 5 days. I finally took the camera into their repair facility and asked for a replacement since the on-line store...

Good ultra-compact camcorder

Strengths: Small size. MiniDV does not get any smaller than this! Analog input ports allow you to convert older tapes to digital format. Digital camera mode to take pictures on SD media. Included remote.

Weakness: Low battery life of 1.25 hrs w/open LCD. Only 15x optical zoom. Some of the other models have 25x zoom. 90 days labor warranty.

I bought this camcorder mainly for its reviews and its ultra-compact size. The size definitely did not let me down. Infact, it was smaller than I had imagined. The palm grip is customizable for a secure fit. The digital camera facility does not substitute for a real digital camera. The 1024 x 768 pictures are sharp in daylight and good indoors light. The lack of a flash will hamper your...

Nice camera, but defective.

Strengths: small, digital image stabilization, many ports, stereo mic ins.

Weakness: defects.

Just wanted to add my experience- my GRDF450 stopped working at about 9 months after almost no use. I called JVC, sent it in, and they fixed it for free. But will it just die again in another several months? I feel ripped off after hearing all the same stories from almost everyone who bought one- I think JVC should recall them and give us all the next model up, one that works. Or they should...

This camcorder sucks!

Strengths: None

Weakness: Does not work!

I bought this camera about a year and a half ago. It worked great for my disney vacation. It sat for 6 months until I pulled it out for my daughters first ski lesson and then I got the infamous lens cap error. Sent it back because I purchased an extended warranty and they fixed it. It worked again but then it sat for another 8 months until I pulled it out this past Christmas and guess what? the...

Focus Problem

Strengths: Good low light, easy to use.

Weakness: Focus problems, things too white, comes with small battery

It tends to hunt for focus sometimes in outdoor and indoor situations which can happen during that important moment. Also when filming outdoors clothes and objects that have sun on them loose their detail and become bright, this especially happens to white things. I liked its filming indoors which gave really good colour and very little grain. You need a bigger 2nd battery but I suppose all...

Quick Review Camcorders: JVC GR-DF450

The JVC GR-DF450 will forever be in the shadow of its bigger brother, the JVC GR-DF550. The GR-DF450 has a lot to offer; unfortunately, so does the GR-DF550 - the Marsha Brady of JVC Ultra Compact camcorders. For only $20 more, the GR-DF550 offers a better imager (1/4.5-inch CCD with 1.3 MP gross) and more still resolution options (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, 640 x 480). The two...

JVC GR-DF450 Camcorder Review

Compact camcorders are often gimmick devices intended to tap into the impulsive shopper’s need for something cool. However. the JVC GR-DF series seems to dispel that theory by providing a wealth of features and ports into a relatively small machine. The GR-DF450 is the middle child of JVC’s 2005 line of Ultra-Compact Series of camcorders. This camcorder ships with a 15x optical zoom lens...
