small, light, good price

Strengths: big hard-drive; remote-controller; decent video quality; light; tiny size

Weakness: no view-finder; the lid of the usb port opens a lot; it has only 25x optical zoom; only 1 megapixel

I've been using this for three months now. i always like sony for camcorders. i used a different version of sony hard-drive camcorder. personally in quality-wise, i prefer sony than canon (I used this brand too). the huge capacity makes everything easier. you don't need to carry dvd or tapes. the downloading speed to your computer is fast. if you carry laptop, it shouldn't be any problem of...

Convenient, compact, great performance SONY DCR-SR85

Strengths: Video resolution is actually pretty good inspite of what the spec says. Compact size, quick start up, good battery life. Very easy touch screen manu and software.

Weakness: Still image resolution need to be improved.

This is my first digital camcorder, no more tapes or dvds to buy and carry. Battery life is actually pretty good, but it will be a must to buy additional battery for travel or other special events. Its compact size is very comfortable to fit into the palm. Built quality is good. Overall, I think it is a great and easy to use camcorder. Digital still image has a lot of room for SONY to improve on...

Good but could have been better...

Strengths: Sleek design, Night shot feature, 60GB hard disk, ease of use

Weakness: Night Shot plus can give blurry picture in changing light conditions. Absence of viewfinder.

We loved our camcorder for its sleek design and ease of use. But when we tried testing the Night shot feature on the roadside, the picture becomes hazy whenever a vehicle passes by; in changing light conditions. Apart from this, the camcorder is a good buy for the price they quote. An additional battery is a MUST.

Great quality, good price, solid buy!!!

Strengths: The main selling point was the 41hrs of recording time. This camera also has night shot plus, which is awesome, and was very surprising! Sony has made it very easy to trim and move your home videos to your PC and save to a DVD. Image quality is on par o

Weakness: No built in flash, acceptable resolution but could be higher.

After losing two full days at Disney with my kids (Samsung sc-dc173u - read/write errors on disc), this is a nice change nothing to fuss with!!! I cannot stress the ease of use with the video transfer and the ability to edit and trim. I would definitely recommend the Sony DCR-SR85 to anyone.

DCR-SR85 Sony camcorder

Strengths: Small, one handfull. Good quality pictures. Beware of extra batteries that come with a jumper wire They don't tell you how much battery is left.

Weakness: This camcorder does not have a viewfinder. The LCD goes blank on a real bright day and you cannot read anything, no focus ,no icons. no framing of the picturs My 30 days to returnwere up while on vac

I would love to trade this SR85 for a HD camera with a viewfinder. A small camera is hard to hold still in one hand. I obtained a mono leg support. This helped but is akward to pack and carry. My vacation was in Greece, a very hot and bright place. Without a viewfinder, my movies were a complete failure.

A really good camera for no High Def

Strengths: Size, Price,Image quality, versatility, editing SW compatibility

Weakness: Image stabilization, Audio quality on the camara during playback, ergonomics of strap.

Overall: This camera was feature rich for less than $500 from a Pricegrabber retailer. The same camera was $250 more plus tax in the store. It has every feature I needed, is very small, and the flexibility of the 60Gb hard drive is awesome. The size of the camera is great. It is very small and is easy to transport in all the places you want to take a camcorder. The quality of the picture is very...

Strengths: 60gb hard drive is awesome. no more tapes!!

Weakness: optical zoom only 25x, must have made with more mp

har drive camcorders are a revolution i guess. no more tapes- thats the very reason to buy! wish it has more pixels. optical zoom is only 25x but has a good digital zoom (2000x). easy to operate and handy. i would recommend this to any one who are looking for a hard drive camcorder. this is 60gb man- cool!

Sony Handycam DCR-SR85

THE GOOD: Lightweight, compact design; 60GB of storage and recording ability to Memory Stick cards; responsive touch screen; simple operation. THE BAD: Overpriced for what it delivers; no optical image stabilization. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you dont want to, need to, or simply cant shell out a couple hundred dollars more for an HD camcorder, the Sony Handycam DCR-SR85 delivers decent SD video and...
