EXCELLENT Value For the Dollar You Spend on this...

Strengths: Great Sound, Durable, Simple Controls, Great Features, Versatile, Comfortable to Operate, Great Picture Quality I have been videoing wedding for 5 years, and have used all types of video camers. I find this a great camcorder for weddings, the lux reading

Weakness: The manual functions are not very practical. My only wish is that it had external mic input. You can purchase the little microphone that sits in the hot shoe, but you can not connect an XLR converter to it. The built-in mic is just as good, if not better

Great Sound, Durable, Simple Controls, Great Features, Versatile, Comfortable to Operate, Great Picture Quality I have been videoing wedding for 5 years, and have used all types of video cameras. I find this a great camcorder for weddings, the lux reading is 1.5 which is great. The only thing that I would chance is the shutter speed. It is set from the factory at 30. I manually change it to 60....

Awesome camcorder! I'm loving it!

Strengths: You just cant beat Sony's Night Shot. I'm also loving the 1080i HD recording.

Weakness: It's hard to find any. I do know in order to improve the night shot I'm going to go and pick up the IR light adapter which will triple the distance for the night shot.

I love the camera so far. The still pictures as well as the video are truly amazing with the 1080i HD. I'm using it for my two passions - my family and paranormal investigations. For the latter Sony's Night Shot can't be beat. Personally I dont feel that the extra 200-300 dollars for the HC7 is worth it, but to each their own.

Get the HDR-HC7

Strengths: Great for day time, touch screen menu...

Weakness: Connection annoying, Low light quality poor....

I was really looking forward for this Camera to produce great quality video, got all the correct accessories, and and started to play with it. I hooked it up to my 60inch XBR2 Screen and right away I saw pixels almost like the analog camera would show. I messed around with some setting but the quality never changed. All the setting were correct on the TV and Cam was set to full HD. Next morning I...

HDR-HC5

Strengths: HD camcorder for people on a tight budget. Compact design, simplified menus and buttons, and easy basic menu navigation makes this a great space saving point and shoot camcorder.

Weakness: Lacking a MANUAL CONTROL wheel! ALL Manual adjustments must be made through the LCD touch screen monitor. Frames drop during low light auto slow shutter mode. Accessories are all proprietary Sony.

So I finally got my HDR-HC5 Camcorder and for starters, After reading through the instruction manual and using it for the last few days, here are a few of my thoughts: ---Ergonomics--- This camcorder is small! Very small. My initial impression from palming it reminded me of palming a football. The compactness of this camcorder was one of the reasons why I decided on purchasing the HDR-HC5, it...

Good camcorder, but Sony has better models out there

Strengths: HD video, small size, good image quality

Weakness: Poor UI, buttons and ports randomly placed on camera, HD video still looks like camcorder video

We've had this camera for a couple of months now, primarily in anticipation of our new daughter who came a week ago! We've shot indoors, outdoors, people, nature, we've used HD and SD video formats. Overall, it's a good camera, however Sony has a hard drive based HD camcorder for less money with a MUCH better user interface that I wish I had looked into more. The UI on this is really clunky. I...

Sony HDR-HC5 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Strengths: Small and compact. Beautiful High Def picture.

Weakness: Poor picture in low light, motor noise.

This is a great Sony compact high def camcorder. It uses minidv tape which will get you a good 60 min of high def video. It has a 4 meg still camera built-in which uses Sony memory stick. This feature comes in very handy when you want to take still pictures. It's light and has a small form factor. It will give you great HD home video picture without shelling out a lot of $$$. Highly recommend it.

Great HD camcorder at affordable price

Strengths: Easy to use, high quality video at day time, 2.7" LCD touch screen

Weakness: Not good video at night, mini DV tape

Overall, this is a great camcorder. The touch screen is realy nice and easy to use. The HD video quality is definitely recommended. The video is great at daytime but not that good at night. Battery life is OK for about 1 hour. Mini DV is not my best choice but I am OK with it. But the price is good compared to other HD camcorder.
