Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Strengths: Playback of old 8mm formats. Touch screen. Sony name/quality.

Weakness: Complicated touch screen menus. Poor still picture quality.

Since I have dozens of regular 8mm tapes, and I wanted to start editing these tapes on my PC, this was a must for me. Can even hook up a VCR thru the camcorder and transfer from that. Recorded picture quality is great. Although a fantastic feature.....the still picture quality is barely acceptable. If it was 3 megapix or better....that would have made it a 5/5 star rating for me. Still have to...

Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Weakness: Constant humming noise in Camera Tape Standby and Record mode. Had the same problem with a Sony HC-40.

Does TRV 480 have same noise? I like many of the features particularly having S-VHS in and out. Need to get used to the screen menu. Liked the picture more with my TRV 82 - much clearer.

Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Strengths: Versatility in on-board software - Digital effects: both in recording and playback. Backwards compatibility [to my Sony TRV65].

Weakness: I was really disappointed to discover NO mike/headset jacks! ( A necessary plus on my 65) even though specs. listed A/V I/O. The motor sounds do bug me - but don't get recorded.

After years of using a Sony ...TRV65, it took me awhile to get used to the "non-button" touch screen and the numerous functions available to me now. Glad to see SVHS jack. My, how tape and batt. power fly with digital! I definitely recommend another battery - of at least double that which comes with the cam. Another item of concern is the inability to perform a "color/white Balance" manually. On...

Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Strengths: 1. Touch screen operation; 2. Can take still pictures while videotaping. 3. Compact; can balance and shoot holding with one hand.

Weakness: 1. Tape ejects from the bottom-- a pain to use with a tripod! 2. Record time is only 1 hr. instead of two on SP, 1.5 hrs. on LP.

The picture and sound quality are similar to other consumer video cameras in the same class. It does have lots of user-friendly features to play and edit any 8mm or Hi8 videos.

Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Strengths: digital 8, SONY product, bypass mode, easy tranfer to PC, can take memory stick pro to 1 GB

Weakness: heavier than DV, bundled software poor for camcorder/PC integration, still camera delay

I have been using SONY camcorders for years. Started 8mm then hi-8 now to D8. You need digital to tranfer to computer and D8 is great since I have 8mm and hi-8 tapes to be played back. What is nice is the bypass mode to transfer analog to digital video; saves on a converter box. The pictures are fantastic and takes memory stick pro to 1GB. For a D8 it doesn't seem to be that bulky. Get an extra...

Sony Handycam Digital Camcorder - 2.5" - Touchscreen...

Strengths: none

Weakness: can not install on my computer

I bought this product since I would like to produce my video directly at home. It couldn't connect to my PC eventhough using my USB streaming cable. Do you have any information how to install it perfectly? My Windows XP could not detect anything.

The camcorder is a sibling to the TRV350 model from 2003, with the most notable upgrades being the touch-screen LCD, increased zoom capability, and spot-metering and spot-focusing functions. This camcorder functions like the smaller MiniDV camcorders, but allows the user to record to...
