Happy Cam Owner

Strengths: 30x digital zoom, built in light, 16 x 9 feature, weight

Weakness: .8 still cam

I purchased this camcorder to video my stand-up acts in comedy clubs that of course that are dim and very little light but the stage. I get great video and the playback is fantastic. It's so light and the buttons are close to your thumb for ease of use. I highly recommend this for beginners and pros.

Panasonic PV-GS39 MiniDV Camcorder

Strengths: compact design, excellent video quality , 30X optical zoom, quality widescreen LCD

Weakness: Optional extended life battery is pricey

This good lokking compact camcorder produces excellent movies. The LCD is crisp while shooting, while the viewfinder less so. The 30X optical zoom is nice to have. For extended shooting, one can purchase the optional battery pack that's quite expensive. Almost $100.

Light and compact camcorder you can carry anywhere

Strengths: Light, easy - self explaining operation, relatively good battery life, could hold SD card

Weakness: Indoor movie quality is not good with noise, not efficient light, low resolution of still image to SD card

I've got this a few days ago, and used pretty much for both indoor and outdoor filming. I used JVC-GR DVL310 before, which was quite heavier and bigger than this one with much higher quality as is often the case with the previous expensive camcorder. Compared to the previous model, this gs39 is by far cute and lighter with nearly same essential features as previous one. For family use, especially...

Excellent MiniDV camera

Strengths: True widescreen recording & LCD, great battery life, 30X optical zoom, SD card slot, video light

Weakness: No remote control, no built-in lens cap

Great MiniDV camera with features found in higher end cameras, like the widescreen LCD and recording. The video light and SD card slot, taking into consideration the limitations of the camera, are useful add-ons in my opinion. The video camera is not meant to replace your digital camera for pictures, but having the SD card slot allows for quick snapshots while taking video at an acceptable...

As good as the competition - at a better price - the...

Strengths: Inexpensive, Easy to use, Manual controls, Electronic Image Stabilization, Good Video quality, SD card slot, 30X Zoom.

Weakness: Poor Still Images, Low-Light video is noisy.

I bought this for $160 + Tax at BestBuy during their Thanksgiving Sale. For that price I consider it to be a gem of a camcorder. For the list price there might be other options, but this panasonic holds up really well with most of them. I compared it with a friends' Canon ZR200 and I liked the general feel of the Panasonic better. The controls are well placed and the menus were easier to...

Good deal

Strengths: excellent video quality SD slot

Weakness: average stills

I ordered this camcorder from Amazon. Arrived as scheduled. compact size camcorder with excellent video quality. Accepts SD cards which are less expensive than memory sticks. As expected, the digital still quality with 0.8 MP is not that great, you still need a 4 MP or more digital camera. The 30 x optical zoom is amazing. The battery does not charge when the DC cable is connected to the DC...

My first experience with a minidv camcorder - PV-GS39

Strengths: I was extremely suprised at how small and lightweight the camcorder is.

Weakness: The low light, indoor video could use some improvement.

I am extremely pleased overall with the Panasonic PV-GS39 camcorder. I bought this camcorder for a vacation coming up and I think it will fit our needs perfectly. It is extremely small and lightweight, with that however my large hands sometimes have a hard time hitting the zoom and record buttons. The widescreen LCD is nice and bright and the joystick control is very simply to use. I feel that...

Panasonic PV-GS39 MiniDV Camcorder with 30x Optical...

Strengths: In short, this is a terrific value and starter camcorder.

Weakness: The fact that this camcorder is extremely small and compact also adds to its allure. This week, without planning in advance, I picked up the GS-39 on my way to my son's school event and put it in my medium-sized purse. It was easy for me to quietly take

I really like this camera as far as it being small, lightweight, easy to hold with my small hands, the overall design of it, etc. But when I tried to hook it up to my pc, I ran into many problems. a) the camera doesn't come with necessary software or cables for using it with the pc. I had to purchase the cables seperately. b) I downloaded the driver from the panasonic website, which the manual...

Compact camcorder

Strengths: 30x zoom, manual controls, panasonic brand(has a rebate until the end of june '06)

Weakness: low light performance, stills

I listed low light performance and stills as the weaknesses but around this price range, you cannot get any better or too much different than this. i had the choices of elura 100 and gs39 but i went with gs39 because of manual controls. maybe i won't use that much but it is nice that i have them, whether i use or not, probably I'll try to learn and use more manual controls. I'm using this...

better to go with pv-gs59 or other brands

Strengths: 30x zoom; price

Weakness: terrible software/technical support

the most dissapointing issue for me is that I couldn't connect it to my computer -- no installation CD included in the kit; and when I went to panasonic website (as suggested by the manual) trying to download a drive, and a BIG surprise to me, NO drive available supporting windows XP! It's just rediculors; how hard it would be to just put a driver there anyway? Also it seems that pv-gs59 has...

Panasonic PV-GS39

The Panasonic PV-GS39 has a unique low-profile design that takes some getting used to but is very comfortable for anyone with larger hands. The control placement is well thought out with a joystick on the mode dial that's easily accessible by your thumb. In fact...

Panasonic PV-GS39 Camcorder Review

The new Panasonic PV-GS39 (MSRP $349), which was unveiled at CES less than a month ago, aims to uphold the high standards that Panasonic set forth in their 2005 PV-GS series. As a 1 chip camcorder standing smack in the middle between the new GS19 and GS59, the PV-GS39 looks to replace and improve upon the last year’s PV-GS31, starting with a smaller, redesigned body, true 16:9 capture, a 2.7”...

Quick Review Camcorders: Panasonic PV-GS39

With an MSRP of $349, the Panasonic PV-GS39 provides an immense number of manual controls without breaking the bank. This 1 chip camcorder allows control over focus, exposure, white balance, gain, and aperture – the gamut of controls Panasonic always packs into camcorders at a price range most manufacturers skimp on. And to boot, you also get a 2.7 inch widescreen LCD and a memory card slot,...
