Sony DCR-DVD405

Strengths: Easy to use, good picture quality, good design, touch screen, memory stick slot for still picture.

Weakness: should include minidvd media to get started

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase, bought it just for $648 thru pricgrabber (beach camera). Before decided to purchase this, I'd been considering another model from sony which is DCR-DVD505. however the differences between 405 and 505 were minim. I went to local retailer to compare these models and the picture quality were just about the same. the differences were only bigger lcd...

A best buy for an Amateur Videographer

Strengths: Best Stillshots (follows its predecessor 403) Very good picture and sound quality.

Weakness: Average Battery life Zoom and Photo shot buttons are in a little awkward position Feels a little heavy for longer video shoots Doesn't come with a neck strap.

I have been using this camcorder for about 2 weeks now and Iam pretty happy with my purchase. Went for a nature trail video shoot. Daylight pictures and video came out pretty excellent. Especially the picture shots were the best I have seen from a 3 meg camera camcorder. I haven't printed those yet, but Iam sure they would come out best though. Videos get recoded on the mini-DVD. You have the...

Sony Reigns Again

Strengths: Top of the line MINI-DVD Recorder

Weakness: Zoom tricky but learnable

have owned many video cameras but have been most pleased with Sony Video Products. I had previously owned the DCR-DVD403 and then the Sony HC1 HD Video Camera. I sold the HC1 and bought the DVD405 and happy I did. People complain of only 18 min of HQ video, but how often do you run that long of clips. Speaking of clips, its nice to have them organized on the dvd and watch then without rewinding...

DVD-405

Strengths: The ease of use with the easy cam. button, and the night-shot feature was a big plus when we were in low light areas on vacation.

Weakness: Mostly get 26-28 min. per disc not the full 30, but I'll take the disc's any day over any tape that you have to mess with (reformat), film it,pop it out,pop it in your dvd plyr. it's that easy.

I researched camcorders for almost a month, after comparing features and price, I found the DVD405 to be the best overall. I'm not much into the tech. aspects of the camara however I do know a little, the mega pix. rating is great for any general purpose filming, you will not be disappointed. I wanted a camara to use for our 1st. trip to Disney, this would be a once and a lifetime to catch my 10...

excellent camcorder for amateur

Strengths: Good picture quality; easy to operate; fast focus and vivid picture

Weakness: 3.0 still Mega Pixel seems not high enough for high-quality; I prefer more times focus than 10X; Bulky and feel heavy for small lady

I have it for one week and tested a lot. Overall it's pretty good and produce satisfactory video. 5.1 surrounding recording is a plus and easy to catch sound from different directions. If you prefer high-quality than fancy small toy, buy this.

Sony DCR-DVD405 Camcorder

Strengths: Strengths include compact size, LCD touch screen, easy to use, quality of movies, and has the memory stick option that the DCR-DVD403 did not have.

Weakness: Weaknesses are very few. The only thing I that could have made this camcoder better is the Sony could have included (1) mini-dvd to get customers started.

Overall this camcorder is an easy to use point and shoot. The highlights of this camcorder for me was the LCD touch screen, which was the only camcorder of it's kind on the market, and the quality and trusted name. It is a bit pricey but with some research one can find a great deal. With all the latest technology on this one camcorder I would highly recommend it because it will be the last...

Sony Delivers Bang For The Buck

Strengths: Media type (DVD), Low light sensitivity, Dolby 5.1 Sound

Weakness: Low light focusing a bit slow at times

Excellent value for the money. Took the camera on a trip to Disney World and left it on "Easy" mode for most of the trip. Media held up well (took on several roller coasters with no issues - recording during bumps IS NOT a problem!). Color saturation good. Took discs straight from camera to family DVD player with no issues (and they were in wide screen mode). Strong thumbs up for family...

Sony DCR-DVD405 camcorder is excellent!

Strengths: Uses mini DVDs, nice LCD screen, has an "Easy" button for default settings, clear pictures, image stabilization, compact size, 3MB still photos

Weakness: need longer lasting battery, would be nice to have a shoulder strap, didn't include a mini DVD

I've only used this for a week now and am a novice, but it has an "Easy" button which made recording for the first time very easy. When I got it, I immediately charged up the battery in the camcorder. I didn't know how long it would take, but to my pleasant surprise, it only took about 2 hours to charge up. I used it that same evening at my child's music concert and was happy with the results....

Great DVD Camcorder

Strengths: Amazing Picture Quality especially in Low Light conditions, Great sound

Weakness: Only supports Sony proprietary Microphone, Only 10x Optical Zoom

I bought this camcorder last week, and have been totally happy with the purchase!! Besides all the other advantages that DVD camcorders enjoy, the picture quality of DVD405 is amazing especially in low light conditions compared to other camcorders in similar price range. Another feature worth mentioning is the crisp quality of sound recording (I have only tried it in normal household situations...

Sony DCR-DVD405

Strengths: Compact, very user friendly, with excellent video capture as well as still photos.

Weakness: Should include a Mini-DVD

After searching countless reviews, on camcorderinfo.com, I finally decided on this Sony, from buydig.com... Our previous camera was, well lets say people joked who brought the TV crew... With its compact size, although still manageable for someone with large hands, and superb video capture, it was truly worth the wait... Although I have only owned it for a short time and mainly use...
