A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words!Strengths: - Lightweight Camera with all the fancy wistles & bells - Nice docking station so you can watch your videos via a TV/monitor Weakness: N O N E What a great MiniCam! Too bad that Sony told me they were phasing this one out; but I was still able to find a great deal via the Internet. Camcorder has the famous Carl Ziess lens, a 2.7" wide LCD monitor, and up to 7 hours of battery life. I went ahead and ordered a separate AC (wall plug) charger so I wouldn't have to keep the MiniCam plugged in all the time (Shentech has them for around $14)...

Wonderful Point and Shoot CamcorderStrengths: Compact, easy to hold, stylish, wide LCD screen, Good battery life, good outdoor performance. Weakness: Optical zoom is only 12X; Not so good low light performance; Touch screen is easy to get dirty because of fingerprints; No small size memory duo card provided. I have owned several camcorders over the years and I'm always pleased with the quality of Sony. Sharpness, color saturation and ease of use are excellent. But compared with lower model, HC36 comes with 20x optical zoom. (BTW, Sony's higher model HC96 only comes with 10x optical zoom but with much higher resolution.) I am using memory stick pro duo card for recording instead of Mini-DV Cassettes,...

Sony DCR-HC46 MiniDV Handycam
It’s the most expensive MiniDV camcorder in this group, but the Sony DCR-HC46 offers features found in none of the others here. For starters, this model sports Sony’s unique 2.7-inch widescreen touch panel display, which while nice, forces you to regularly clean the LCD of fingerprints... TopAdvertisement

Nice camera if you're not quite ready to pay more...
Strengths: 720x480 resolution, CD quality sound, still image capture, night-shot, small size
Weakness: still images only ~1MP, no firewire included
I received this as a birthday gift from my wife as we're planning on having some "video moments" this year. While I was secretly holding out for a high-res video camera, the prices right now are just too high for us. This is a good alternative to hold me over for a few years. It does shoot widescreen which calculates a higher resolution then 4:3. It can also shoot still images and store them to a...
