Sony Handycam DCR-SR220 60GB Hard Drive Camcorder

Strengths: small and portable, convenient to use

Weakness: resolution could be higher.

This product has very high quality vs cost. It can take very clear pictures and videos. Lot of functions. Small and portable. Convenient to use. Only wish the resolution could be higher.

Great Handycam and Camera

Strengths: Dual Purpose - High Resolution Video and 4MP Still Picture Camera with Face deduction Compact and light Weight, Comfortable fit. Easy to create DVDs using provided PMB ( Picture Motion Browser)

Weakness: Missing Shoulder Strap, ViewFinder

This HDD Handycam is very compact and lightweight to operate.
1/5" CMOS Sensor and Bionz Image Processing provides higher resolution than standard handycams which are 1/6" CMOS.
Face deduction technology is a good advantage.
15x optical zoom is reasonable one and good resolution at higher zoom.
Using Nightshot mode to record at low light or dark is very good feature.
Quick ON features enables Handycam to wake up fast to operate.
Auto lens shutter Open/Close is a great plus.
This acts also as Great Digital Camera with 4MP Still Picture using Picture Mode and 3M Picture when taking photo in Video mode.
It has all the modes which a digital camera has.

Software provided is excellent and easy to transfer the MPEG-2 and JPG files using provided USB cord.
Picture Motion Browser looks like an Outlook Calendar type and easy to organize photos and videos.
DVD Burning can be performed using 1 Click Disc Burn, Data disc creation. Video can be edited and also converted to WMV using this Software.
HDD can be accessed as an External drive when connected to PC.

Positives:
This is a MID end Handycam between BASIC and HIGH end with all the latest technology (Bionz and face detection).
Dual mode operations like Handycam and Digital Camera is great plus.
High resolution picture during video mode is also a plus.
LCD display is wide and touch operations are easy to know and operate.
Quick ON feature and Auto lens shutter functions are plus.

Negative: Shoulder Strap is missing to hang it in Shoulder/Neck.
Provided battery NH-60 comes for about 75 mins only. (Need to Purchase NH-70 for 210 mins )
Viewfinder is missing.

An Excellent Camcorder

Strengths: It is small and highly portable

Weakness: Need a spare battery and travel battery charger? They are expensive.

The most cool features is it took a good video at night when I operated it according to the manu. As a hard drive one, it will save you money for miniDV tape. The other good news is the price of hard driver is getting low. Don't expect it can work as well as camera when you use it to take photos

DCR-SR220 handycam

Strengths: 60GB hard drive, excellent still pictures at 4MP. Turns an fast and easy to use. Night vision feature is cool.

Weakness: Original Battery does not last long, additional battery is must. Charging on camera is not prefferable, need seperate charger. 15X optical zoom is OK but more would have been better

This is my first digital handycam (I had VHS camcorder since 1994). I can use this as still camera as well (no need to carry another still camera). 60GB HD should go long way for me. I purchased memory Stick for Still pictures easy transfer. Overall I am satisfied with this.

A Good Camera

Strengths: Excellent Camera with lot of features

Weakness: Price

This is an excellent camcorder with quite a number of features. The only constraint is the price which is high unless you find a deal somewhere. Between HD version and this is just around 200 dollars. So far found no problems and had been working flawlessly.

Strengths: Good job in the dark environment, nice picture!

Weakness: Really need a separate battery

I recorded several good parts, especially in the dark environment. I hope it will do a great job in the delivery time of my wife.
