ZR 200

Strengths: Light. Good fit in hand. Good quality for price.

Weakness: Motor noise. Low light.

The reviews about the motor noise and low light performance are dead on. But this is not a show stopper for a camcorder in this price range. Good camera for the cost if you need an entry level camcorder.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: Small form factor, good picture quality

Weakness: Limited battery life

Good small palm camcorder. While this camera wouldn't be considered Pro, it would be right at home in just about any house. The LCD makes it very easy on the eyes to shoot for extended periods of time. The full auto mode lets you just point and shoot and then capture your memories onto tape.

A great entry level camcorder

Strengths: Low price, tiny size

Weakness: Image quality is not good at night

As an entry level camcorder, this CANON ZR200 achieved great video quality in the daylight. Compared to my friend's ZR300, ZR200 functions not as good at night, especially when the lights are really dim. Anyway, we can not ask too much for a camcorder priced around $250.
Another thing worth mention is that ZR200 takes SD Card both for video and pictures. I use one 1GB card on it and it works great. I feel I don't need the tapes anymore.

dissatisfied

Strengths: Compact size. Easy to use zoom control.

Weakness: Poor low light performance. Too much motor noise comes out on audio. No light.

This is my second camcorder, having had the first for two years previous. I am very dissatisfied with this camera and will actually be taking it back to Best Buy to exchange it for a different brand or model.
Although the daylight performance is o.k., the guality of the light level when shooting indoors is in my opinion atrocious, and there is no built in light to assist you. What you see in the LCD while recording is deceiving, even when the brightness is set to low, as the actual footage comes out much darker. I found myself having to raise the brightness of the footage shot indoors with my Arcsoft editing software. This creates a washed-out look, but at least you can see what is going on. I never had to do that with my previous camera.
The background motor noise that the microphone picks up is very distinct and noticable on all footage, especially when the audio is set to 16 bit stereo and the wind noise cut feature is set to off for indoor shooting. It is very annoying.
The compact size is handy and the controls are easy to use, especially the zoom toggle which is in a good location with the right sensitivety for good control. The one control I do not like is the menu toggle. It is on the bottom left corner of the camera. It has an up/down lever to scroll and then you press hard on it to pick your menu item. Because of its location you can't avoid "jilting" the camera a little while shooting.
If this had been my first camera I would probably be satisfied, but now I can't help making comparisons.
My first camera broke and through research I found out that that particular model has an inherent problem with the CCD giving out, that is why I don't get another. Shame actually, it was a good camera while it worked.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: Easy to use, work well

This camera replaced Canon's ZR85, which was another light weight camera. This one is even lighter, and a fair bit smaller.
It's good enough for most non-professional, home users.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: good zoom, good picture quality, good price and one-hand control

Weakness: none for the price...you get what you pay for...in this case, you get a little more

This is a nifty little camera that fits into the palm of even a woman. Easy controls along with good picture quality make this a great camcorder for a first time user

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: Playback on TV is excellent.Easy use.

Weakness: Playback on laptop not as clear as playback on TV. Did double check the settings but that did not make too much of a difference. Picture gets distorted when playing movie full screen.

We are very satisfied with the camera although it does not play as clear on our computer as it does on our tv. Unfortunately I was under the impression that I had a dvd burner built in my laptop which turned out to be a cd burner with dvd viewing capabilities so now we are not able to burn the movie onto dvd's which is disappointing. I would probably recommend that you make sure you realize what equipment and accessories are needed before purchasing. Looking back I believe it would have been a better choice to purchase a camera that records on dvd's as opposed to the tapes

You can burn "Video CD" format onto writable CDs with a CD burner, and playback those on a DVD player. Quality is not as high as a DVD, but it might be worth trying.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: Low price. Compact design. Light weight. Easy to use. Can use SD card to record video.

Weakness: The quality of the video when using SD card is not good. The auto focus is slow when zooming. Resolution of the picture is not good when zoom in to 22x. (digit zoom not activated. )

I bought this for my parents. Considering the strengths I mentioned above, it is good enough for parents. I did expect better quality of the video when using SD card though. The plastic cover looks cheap too.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: All features that an expensive SONY camera has.

Weakness: Small LCD screen. Low battery time

Worth for its low price. Low Price with all basic and advanced features. Good Zoom, Image Stabilization feature. Sleek model which is "Handy". Still need to do research on the digital features.

Stay away from this camcord

Strengths: There are many features on this camera that I have not used yet

Weakness: I saw a lot of reviews about the background audio noise

3weeks when I received
the following error message "Remove the cassette".
The cassette will not eject, however, so the unit is now
at the canon repair center.

Canon Digital Camcorder - 2.4" LCD - CCD

Strengths: Eay to use controls. Great image

Weakness: Slightly larger than other camcorders.

This is a great camcorder for the price. The controls are easy to use. I believe it is very comparable to the sony camcorders in terms of the features and for a much lower price.

An affordable MiniDV for beginners

Strengths: Decent video quality, compact design

Weakness: need improvement in battery life

The camcorder records reasonably good video clips. Absolutely no as good as my another megapixel MiniDV, it still worth the dollars --with the recent promotion of $50 rebate, it would be more affordable for beginners. Can be easily put into your pocket. Need a back-up battery when travelling.

ZR200

Strengths: Good price; small size; color viewfinder

Weakness: Some noise in the recording

I bought this camcorder from Dell for $219 AR - great value for this price! The camcorder works well, indoors recording yields good quality on Easy mode. The motor is definitely heard in the recording, but I think so it is for most camcorders. Neck strap, Firewire cable are not included.

review for canon zr200

Strengths: big optical zoom, huge digital zoom.

Weakness: not very good for a digital camera

I bought this a couple months ago, overall I like this very very much. It can catch distinct movie and very clear on the computer. It's super big optical and digital zooms. It has a big lcd screen which you can get what you want directly from the screen. I love this camcorder.

My first camcorder on a budget

Strengths: The ZR200 is nice and small. I can fit it in my coat pocket if needed. The picture quality of video is pretty nice for the price you pay. picks up sound pretty good. SD memory compatible for pic/vid.

Weakness: The battery life is not that long on the stock battery. I recommend getting the extended battery. Night mode isn't that good.

I personally love this product for the price I paid of around $275. I use it mostly for my new puppy and the wacky things he does, but its great if you want to take family video. I love the SD card compatible feature. You can record shorter videos on an SD card along with pictures. All around this is a great camera for the person on a budget. If you want a similar style camera but looking for that extra something go for the ZR400 or higher

Worth the price

Strengths: Compact, easy to control, night light

Weakness: Noise

I bought this compact, elementary camcorder half year ago as a gift. Compared to the price, it's a great product. It's a compact, light, easy to control and kind of power saving device. But the noise maybe one of its shortcomings. Would recommend to first time camcorder user.

Quick Review Camcorder : Canon ZR200

The Canon ZR200 is Canon’s mid-road lower-end camcorder this year. This means that the ZR200 sits between the ZR300 and ZR100 this year in Canon’s entry-level ZR series. The series boasts its inclusion of Canon “High Resolution 16:9 mode” seen on some of Canon’s camcorder’s last year. This 16:9 mode is pretty cool, equal to Sony’s widescreen mode, (not counting the Sony camcorders...

Canon ZR200 Camcorder Review

The middle-of-the-line ZR model this year, the Canon ZR200, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronic Show in January 2005. Priced as the second model in a three cam line up in the entry level consumer camcorder market, the Canon ZR200 may be a ZR fanatic’s best buy, with very few changes over the pricier ZR300. If you can do without a useless 8MB SD card, an overly bright “assist lamp,” an...
