Excellent Entry Level HD Camcorder

Strengths: 20x optical zoom, XLR inputs, stunning video quality

Weakness: Pricey, no built-in mic (it does come with an XLR shotgun, however), not necessarily intuitive to use

This camera has a wide variety of settings for exposure, focus and every sort of tweak. It has a powerful 20x optical zoom, which has a 1.5 digital expander for increased range without much drop in video quality.

The 1080i video quality is stunning to behold, and the HDMI output is really useful. It comes with a thorough user's manual which is essential to review as many portions of the camera are not quite intuitive.

It's more expensive than several of its competitors (Canon, Panasonic) but it is top quality and delivers good results.

Amateur cinematographers can now produce that film-look that normal cameras simply cant produce. Sonys technology allows a number of framerates to be captured, 24, 30, 60 and all the way up to a super speed of 240, which allows for smooth...

Camcorder Review: Sony HVR-V1U HDV

The V1U is among the best-balanced camcorders we've used. The overall weight of about four pounds will mean you'll probably find yourself using your left hand to occasionally support the rotational torque on long shots- but hey, if you're not using a tripod, you should be using two hands anyway, right? The hand strap nestles your hand comfortably against a newly designed palm grip that is...
